BitDefender announced today that its Security for File Servers has been awarded the VB100% Virus Bulletin certification. This is for security solution’s ability to detect all the viruses that are on the WildList without coming out with false positives. The security system’s outstanding level of detection for malicious programs sans false positives has also gained it a VB100 award for the depth and accuracy of the company’s antivirus technology.

Carpathia Hosting, enterprise managed hosting services provider partners with ParaScale Inc., for its cloud storage software as part of the backend infrastructure of its cloud computing services. The upcoming cloud software solutions company will be providing the ParaScale software that is set to offer a seamless integration of dedicated and cloud resources.

The integrate cloud compute and storage platform will be called the Carpathia Cloud Orchestration and it will be designed to aggregate storage from the heterogenous servers in order to form a scalable storage pool that is accessible, viewable and manageable from one point.

Carpathia used the ParaScale software to deploy a distributed platform that is capable of scaling linearly for storage and for applications. ParaScale is not just a storage tier, says Carpathia Hosting CTO Jon Greaves. He goes on to explain that it is going to serve as a platform from which applications – ranging from indexing algorithms to antivirus and malware protection suites – will run. By having applications run from the same operating system and hardware as in the case of ParaScale’s system, network bottlenecks are reduced or even eliminated. The applications can seamlessly combine with storage through ParaScale’s global namespace to make it reliable and tightly coupled.

Carpathia Hosting comments that it has carefully evaluated a number of storage solutions before it settled with ParaScale’s service offering. The selection criteria was composed of using a commodity hardware that will create a multi-petabyte storage without requiring clients to recode the applications or even manually remove the files through web interfaces. Carpathia also wanted to build solutions that go past basic storage so it needs a platform that can provide the same infrastructure building block.

Going Camping

We went on a family camp trip a few days ago. My family is important to me – we needed to make sure everyone was safe in the country. It’s good thing we had a tiny bit of time to do some shopping.
