BREEAM Top Rank for Carlyle Group’s Colmore Plaza in Birmingham

With the Carlyle Group’s Colmore Plaza receiving a rating of ‘very good’ this week from BREEAM’s Management and operations assessment team, the city of Birmingham is now being seen as a serious contender for the development of green complexes. The rating is very difficult to achieve, with only a handful of buildings across the United Kingdom having being rated at this level.

The accreditation is the first in the Birmingham area, and Carlyle Group’s Director for the building, Mark Harris is justifiably proud of the achievement. He claimed that not only has the rating brought prestige to the group but also given the developers new ideas on how they can improve and better manage the building performance. The building reiterates the Birmingham community’s commitment to environmental safe-keeping and Harris hoped that the Colmore Plaza would encourage others to follow desk space rental projects in the same way.

He adds that not only will the accreditation raise the valuation of the property; it will also signify a growth in value for future tenants and occupants. At the same time, the address will signify a true commitment to social responsibility for the occupants. However, this is not at the cost of comfort, as the office premises has everything up to the latest in technology.

The original developers, Abstract Land had sold the property to Carlyle Group. The latter took over the property and managed to turn its fortunes around, as the building had been vacant before the Carlyle Group took over, and had been unable to find tenants. The project was managed by Davis Langdon and Amey had announced the placement of s design hub in the building at the time of its commissioning.
